“Zorba the Greek” Ballet Spectacle to Premiere on 11th June on the Main Stage

1. June 2026.

To conclude its 157th season, the National Theatre in Belgrade is preparing a true ballet treat – the spectacular production “Zorba the Greek”.

Featuring around 150 performers, the production brings to life an exciting and emotional story based on Nikos Kazantzakis’s novel “Zorba the Greek: The Life and Times of Alexis Zorba”, accompanied by the unforgettable music of the renowned composer Mikis Theodorakis. His score gives the work its distinctive Greek and Mediterranean atmosphere, including the famous theme “Zorba’s Dance,” which has become a symbol of the sirtaki dance.

The premiere, choreographed and directed by Konstantin Kostyukov, is scheduled for 11th June at 7:00 p.m. on the Main Stage.

Conducted by Aleksandar Kojić, the production will feature the soloists and ensemble of the Ballet, and the Choir and Orchestra of the National Theatre, together with students from the “Lujo Davičo” Ballet High School.

The set designer is Saša Senković, and the costume designer is Olga Mrđenović.

The first subsequent performance will take place the following day, 12th June. “Zorba the Greek” will return to the Main Stage two more times in June, on 15th and 16th June. The production will then be performed as a guest production at the National Theatre in Užice on 19th June.
